The Quiot family has been making wine in the south of France since 1748, over 260 years! Domaine Houchart is situated near the town of Aix-en-Provence on the ruins of an old Roman villa dating back to the first centuries AD, and has most likely been producing wine since then! It’s been farmed by the Quiots since the 1870’s.
We first met the family in France in 2011 during the VinExpo show. The importer, David Milligan had told us that we needed to meet them. Boy was he right! Charming, passionate and quite funny despite their limited English, we visited for two hours alternately talking and tasting their selection of wines. When we tasted their Rose, we all silently nodded to each other, signaling “This is the one!” It has everything you look for in a Provencal rose; a lovely salmon color, bright cherry and strawberry flavors and a long, lingering finish. Just a light chill to preserve the delicate aromas and you have a perfect aperitif. It’s also a great match with summer salads (Nicoise anyone?), chicken and fish. But the perfect pairing for this wine is even simpler…match it with the summer sun!
